Age Co car insurance dreadful customer care
We insured both of our cars on separate policies with Age Co insurance.
Last Thursday the 26th January we decided to scrap our Ford Kuga as a catastrophic MOT failure. I telephoned Age Co to cancel the Kuga’s policy, which they said they did. The Kuga was left off road at the Ford garage in Redditch pending collection and we carried on driving the MX5.
We took delivery of our new Kuga on the 31st January, it had 3 days insurance through the Ford dealership so that gave us a few days grace to sort out our own insurance. So yesterday afternoon (1st February) I rang Age Co to insure it. I was told that they had cancelled the wrong policy and the MX5 was not insured - so I had been driving around uninsured for nearly a week. They couldn’t reinstate the insurance as it was discovered more than a day after it had happened, they would have to refer it ‘up’ where it would be looked into and they would get back to me at 4ish today (2nd February)
Sofaras the new Kuga was concerned, they would swap it onto the other Kuga’s policy since it hadn’t been cancelled. But instead of £41 a month it would be £71 a month. Having slept on it, and unhappy at the huge price rise I rang again this morning to query it. It’s a tale of 2 cars again......
The MX5 couldn’t be reinstated and they had opened a new policy on it (the old policy still had 6 months to run). The new premium was higher than the old, so because they had mistakenly cancelled the wrong policy I was going to end up paying more a month, and they would/could not budge on this!
As for the Kuga, they did try to incorporate it into a multi car policy with the MX5 to bring the costs down..... a glimmer of hope..... then they rang back to say the don’t insure Kuga’s any more and they have cancelled my policy. But.... they can swap the MX5 onto the Kuga’s policy and drop the premium down to what it was....
I was so angry I actually hung up so I didn’t say anything too rude to the woman on the phone.
I organised insurance for both cars through Ford on a multi car policy with a premium of less than the quote for the Kuga with Age Co. So I took a deep breathe and rang Age Co to politely cancel the MX5 insurance, to be told I have no cars insured with them, they had cancelled it already. So once again I could have been driving around in an uninsured vehicle and not been aware of the fact.
Thankfully both cars are fully insured now and we can drive legally.
This has caused me enormous stress and worry, all because Age Co made a mistake. They have made me I’ll with stress

My experience was Excellent!
The site was really easy to use and follow and I also needed to speak with one of the customer service team about a query. They were wonderful and I can't praise them enough.
Excellent throughout!

Read my review before insuring through this Company PLEASE
So sad that a Company that holds itself up to be helpful to the elderly try and, in my opinion rip them off. My mothers insurance gone up by £350 since last year. WHY oh they say because she had an incident. NO she didn't it was the previous year but there was no claim and actually no incident as she braked and thought she hit another car but didnt. Claim withdrawn by us before 2022 renewal and £350 rebate given. But this year they bring it up again and say it was reported so she has to pay £350 extra .
I have run an insurance business for 42 years and this is not the case FACT.

Do not use!! Avoid at all costs!
Do not use.
I continued paying the car insurance for my friends car after his death. I sold the car on December 10th and informed Age Co within 30 seconds.
Then today I have the full monthly amount debited.
Absolute disgrace!

Apology from a rep of Age UK.
Money on its way.
Staff being reminded of what they should have done.
I would still not use them again by choice.

Insurance refused for 87year old
Tried to get insurance for my 87year old father. 60+ years of motoring, 9+ years NCD, no claims in last 5years. Insurance refused but when I contacted them, they wouldn't say why only that it definitely wasn't his age. What a joke.

My mother moved recently and we have been trying to swop her address (and therefore policy over). They want her to use the internet or telephone them. At 89 she doesn’t use the internet and we have just hung on the line for 15 minutes, she doesn’t have the money to hang onto a fee costing line either. No addresses given for correspondence either on the policy details. Very poor customer service.

BUYER BEWARE
BUYER BEWARE - shop around! My elderly mother has renewed her home insurance with AgeCo year on year believing they would provide one of the better deals for the elderly. Sadly that couldn't be further from the truth. This year's renewal was a few pennies less than £500 for a 1 bedroom, 3 reception room semi detached bungalow. I managed to find almost equivalent cover with Sainsbury (5 star defacto) for £217, a saving of £283!!!

Your Contact Centre needs more people?
Starting with the positives - the service I received from the agent I spoke to was quick and fuss-free. However, the wait on the telephone to actually speak to an agent was painful. I have contacted this Contact Centre twice in the last month, and on each occasion I was waiting nearly 30 minutes for service - most recently 27 minutes. I would suggest that Age Co Contact Centre desperately recruits more people, or reviews its CC processes. It crossed my mind on several occasions to hang up and obtain cover from another supplier - the specifics of my situation meant it would have been problematic to do so.

Another Grossly Inflated Quote!
What can I say except why did I waste my valuable time, yet again, to obtain an online Car Insurance quote from Age Co??? £400 more that existing insurer. What tempted me to get a price was a mail shot indicating a reasonable £239.88 annual but should have noticed the little word "from"..... I won't waste my time again tho!!

Grossly inflated premiums
Received a mailshot regarding car insurance so thought I would give them a call to quote me and as a low risk 70 year old with maximum no claims bonus I expected a very competitive quote Quite the contrary they quoted me £535 for the year To say I was mortified was an understatement My current insurer quoted £240 for renewal including full green flag breakdown cover I'm afraid I won't be calling you again certainly not at these grossly inflated premiums Not even competitive in any way I will be staying with my current insurer but thank you for the quote anyway

Just completed the online request for a quote for house contents insurance. I’m 68 so assumed I would be their target age, private renter. At the end of completing the form received a message saying they were unable to offer me a quote! No explanation at all - having read some of these reviews I’m quite glad really
